Not since Audrey or Twiggy has a pixie created such a stir. Sure, there have been a bunch of substitute teacher types since them – namely Alyssa Milano, Vicki Beckham and, of course, the infamous Brittany Spears freak-out which I’m not sure even constitutes as a pixie? Natalie Portman shaved her head for the movie V for Vendetta showing Brit how it’s really done. But that wasn’t really a pixie either. Just a No. 1 all over.
In any case, Emma Watson had a contract with Burberry and, duh, the Harry Potter franchise where she was essentially required by contract to keep her lengths for photo and videography purposes. SO, the contracts(s) expire and she’s left with a choice. Cut or not? So what is an early 20-something do as they’re hurdling through the carefree life we in America call college? We experiment. And while many of our experimentations turn out tragically, her outcome is flawless. It’s playful, it’s bold, it made sense to her and most importantly: she loves it.
“I love it. I’ve wanted to do this for years and years; it’s the most liberating thing ever,” she said on her Facebook page.
Joan Rivers recently made some unpleasant remarks on her new do, calling her sexual orientation into question, which is clearly beside the point and painfully irrelevant. Thanks for the input anyway, Joan.
What makes a pixie so alluring is that it takes a lot of guts to do it. The confidence which, of course, makes it sexy. What makes it sexy is it’s bold nature. What makes it bold is the fact that it’s different, which is why we love it. Many have tried and failed to make this look work. Like it or not, she does. And at the end of the day, that’s all that matters anyway.
