Spring has arrived in Indianapolis! At this point, most of us are dreaming of warm weather, a cold drink, and sun-kissed hair. Knowing the typical fluctuating Indy weather, we will be kept on our toes for the next few months. Luckily we have gathered some of the best spring looks for any occasion (annoying rainy days included).
I am so glad this look has been making a comeback for the past few seasons. I thought my days of ripped denim would be left in the depths of middle school memories, but this trend has been reemerging with cool, laid back, and still-polished vibes. If you want to ease into this trend, I suggest a pair of skinny jeans with a few simple slits at the knees. I bought a pair of dark J Brand skinnies like this and after laundering them over time, the slit knees have organically become more distressed and casual-looking. In addition to a skinny fit distressed denim, a boyfriend fit in a lighter wash is also very popular for spring. A pair of boyfriend jeans is perfect for the days when you are on the go and need the versatility, (and let’s be honest, the comfort). Dress up your boyfriend jeans with a pair of heels, flowy blouse and a bold lip for a GNO.
These tops are everywhere for spring, and there is no question why. Off-the-shoulder tops are super flattering on all body types and show a bit of skin without revealing cleavage or midriff. Even simple styles of this type of top will dress up an ordinary outfit. Pair your off-the-shoulder top with either a collar or a dangling necklace.
Lace Up Sandals
Lace up flats were all the rage for fall and winter, and while that trend will likely continue into the warmer months, lace up sandals are making their presence known. Different types of gladiator and lace up wedges are the much chicer alternative to a pair of flip flops and require virtually the same amount of effort. Opt for a pair of flat gladiator sandals over the typical flip flop next time you are putting on a sundress or shorts. My rule is that a flat sandal or small wedge is almost always suitable throughout the day, but if it is happy hour or later, go with the wedge! There is no such thing as over-dressing.
Living in Indiana, you definitely need to invest in a pair of rain boots. While the classic bright yellow galoshes are a fun statement, they don’t always go with every look you may need to pair with them in a chance of rain. Instead, look for rubber boots that you could see yourself wearing with multiple outfits, or even when it is not raining. Unless you plan on splashing through a muddy creek, you can likely get by with a short, ankle-height boot. Look for solid neutral colors like black, tan, navy or dark grey. Not only will these styles look more put together than the bright patterned options available, but it will also keep you from needing to switch out of your boots once you arrive at your destination.
Popular Colors this Spring
The colors this season are much more fun than the typical pastel options. Be on the lookout for the two Pantone colors of year – Serenity and Rose Quartz – and play up your color coordinates with deep greens, lilacs, poppy yellows, teals and bright coral shades.
This spring, look for small changes that can make your look pop. Whether it is adding a statement necklace, tossing on a bright lip color or switching out flip flops for a fun sandal, these changes will make you feel more polished and definitely get the attention of others.
