Rudy, a man of his own style… and a stylist who has been in the biz for almost 18 years has carved a pathway for himself, that’s for certain. Joining our downtown MDG Salon|Studio location in December of 2012, I finally got to sit down (more like stand with him at our amazing concierge-style reception desk) on what I think was one of the most humid days we have had in the greater Indianapolis area. I asked Rudy, “What does “Summertime” mean to a stylist?”
“Kerastase deep conditioning treatments, Oribe hair masques… taming dry, “wind split” ends!
Here at MDG, we offer a wide selection of Kerastase & Oribe conditioning treatments, each tailored to YOUR specific hair needs. We welcome Summertime with warm glows & smiling faces, but frizz has been banned since the doors opened at 355 Indiana Avenue. Prep. Condition. Style… & Wow!
Rudy’s personal style is comfy, relaxed, and casual. What you see is what you get. The magic is in his shears and his mind. Leave it to him to create THE Look you are going for, I mean he made it through the 90’s trends of dirty, grungy, egg plant toned hair. He dabbles with the current “long, pretty, mermaid (dare I personally say, Kardashian, gasp!) hair”, but gives an edgy, yet sleek signature touch. Michelle Obama bangs may have had their own 15-minutes of fame, but that doesn’t mean The Bang phenomenon is gone. Rudy can give you a sweeping look you never have to hate on.
On the topic of trends, there is one that he wishes to do away with: At-Home Ombre Kits. It’s a fashion no-no that he has had his hands in one too many times. With that being said, why not just get it done the right way the first time… Hair catastrophe free with Rudy!
Now on the other hand: hand heart-shaped love goes out to the purposely messy, sexy “beachy” look with multi-dimensional color peaking through. He is an avid fan of Oribe’s Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray to hold THE Look all day and into the night. Men (and women with short sleek pixie cuts) leave here with the scent of Oribe’s Rough Luxury Soft. It’s shine & soft hold are a definite for his clients. Another added bonus to a visit in Rudy’s chair is his Shampoo Massage Brush, which has won the love at our salon, so we actually sell them now too! A fabulous head massage in the Shampoo Room is just the beginning of the experience.
What’s Summertime without an icon to play follow the leader with? Rudy claims the ultimate icon: Tom Ford. Tom Ford. Tom Ford. But for now, on a Pete Wentz style budget, a gently worn button down from Goodwill will do. It’s not hard to dress up Rudy’s signature “if it goes with my Converse, I’ll wear it” look. Looking at female style icons: classic & always reinventing: Diane von Furstenberg and the one and only, Carolina Herrera. Classic. Powerful. Yet, simple… and definitely a statement. That’s Rudy’s Summer of Style bio… make a statement.
Next up: Olga Edwards, the Queen of Color.
